Headstones and Base memorials are typically built using two pieces of granite, the upper section is called the ‘headstone’ which sits on top of a base stone. The Headstone and base are attached together using monumental grade adhesive and stainless steel dowels. Sometimes people refer to the base as the foundation. However, the foundation is normally made of reinforced concrete and is set into the ground which the base of a two-part monument is fixed to. This prevents the headstone and base from shifting or tilting over time.
